  • However some Twitter users were distracted by the ex England star’s clothing
  • Sports star was pictured wearing tan coloured mid-calf Sorel snow boots and a bobble hat on the luxury flight – which some football fans poked fun at
  • One quipped: ‘You stood in front of a full length mirror this morning and said “yeah this outfit works”‘

Former England football captain John Terry has already felt the sharp end of Twitter, despite only having recently joined the social media platform, after he shared a snap of himself in winter attire on a private jet – returning from a £145,000-a-week ski holiday.

The Chelsea star, 41, posted a photo of himself relaxing on board the private jet during the short hop back from Switzerland after enjoying a New Year family winter holiday in an uber luxurious ski chalet owned by Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Peter Jones.

However, the photo didn’t land quite as Terry, who’s returning to Chelsea to coach at the club’s academy, had hoped – with legions of people poking fun at his winter wardrobe.

The former Chelsea and England star, who has been enjoying a luxury New Year ski break with wife Toni in the Swiss ski resort of Le Petit Crans, found himself on the receiving end of some mocking over his fashion choices after posting this photo on Twitter on Monday

The ex footballer donned a pair of expensive-looking tan coloured mid-calf snow boots, skinny trousers and a bobble hat for the return leg back to Britain after enjoying a break at Le Petit Crans, an exclusive chalet in the glitzy mountain enclave of Crans Montana.

According to the chalet’s website, the property, which sleeps 16, comes with a ‘butler, chef, waitress and maid’ – and costs £145,000 a week during the height of the winter ski season.

Terry gushed to his 6.3million followers on Instagram that it was ‘the BEST holiday we have ever had and memories to last a lifetime’ as he shard a flurry of snaps from the winter break he shared with wife Toni and his two children Georgie and Summer.

However, his winter wardrobe got short shrift from those who spotted the photo, with many suggesting England footballing greats of yesteryear – including Stuart Pearce, Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris and Terry Butcher – would never have worn such ‘horrendous clobber’.

Donning a pair of pristine £150 Sorel Caribou boots for the private flight home, Terry tucked in his slim-fitting trousers into the waterproof boots – and football fans were quick to offer a disparaging verdict.

@PaulMacca76 howled: ‘You stood in front of a full length mirror this morning and said ‘yeah this outfit works’?!?’

Villa supporter @Billy_Chisholm suggested the boots hadn’t seen much snow, saying: ‘Those boots look far too clean John or are they your in-flight wear?’

Others were shocked that the retired footballer had used a private jet to make the short hop to Geneva airport.

After five years away from Stamford Bridge, Terry has taken on a coaching role with the Blues’ academy.

Terry left the club in 2017 and has sought to carve out a career in coaching. He spent three years at Aston Villa as assistant to manager Dean Smith, before leaving last summer.

The former England captain stepped away from his role at Villa Park to tour Europe in order to study other coaching styles and has been waiting to see if other head coach roles become available.

The 41-year-old still lives within a stone’s throw from Chelsea’s Cobham training base and it is reported that his close ties with former team-mates Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini – who occupy roles at the club – and academy director Neil Bath, has helped him make a return to his old club.
