Jesinta Franklin reveals how returning to work is ‘really important’ for her mental health

Jesinta Franklin is returning to work on Sunday with her ambassador role for Crown.

And the model, who shares daughter Tullulah, one, and 10-month-old son Rocky with her AFL star husband Lance ‘Buddy’ Frankin, revealed to The Daily Telegraph’s Stellar on Saturday how important her career is for her mental health.

‘It’s so nice to get back to work and the different elements of my career because as a mum you sacrifice so much for your children,’ the 30-year-old said.

‘You put your needs at the very bottom of the list of things to do, so it’s nice to step back into it. It’s also really important for my mental health to have something to strive for outside motherhood,’ the former Miss Universe Australia went on to say.

Jesinta and Buddy, 34, who are both ambassadors for Crown, will attend the Crown IMG Tennis Party in Melbourne on Sunday ahead of the 2022 Australian Open.

A babysitter will look after their two young children in the Victorian city, allowing the couple to enjoy their first child-free party in months.

Jesinta and Sydney Swans star Buddy wed in an intimate ceremony in 2016.

Buddy got frank early last year when he discussed their marriage and fatherhood in an interview with Daily Mail Australia.

Discussing what he loves most about fatherhood, he said: ‘I love everything about being a dad. But the evolution in my relationship with Jes from being a couple to a family is really special and rewarding, too.’

Praising Jesinta as an ‘incredible mum’ to Tullulah and Rocky, he went on to say: ‘Jes is one of the most loving and caring people I know.

‘I’m lucky to have such a great partner to share this journey with.’

Meanwhile, when quizzed on the secret to a happy marriage, the athlete replied with a refreshingly honest response.

‘I’m not sure there is a secret… every relationship has its hurdles, and we all react differently to situations so it’s important to talk things through and keep an open mind,’ he said.

‘Having such busy schedules, it’s also important to us to set aside time as a couple, and as a family.’

And while Buddy may not be planning to have any more children in the immediate future, he’s still keeping his options open.

‘We have our hands full right now with two under two… but who knows what the future will bring’, he said.

Buddy also said he hopes to impart his love of AFL upon his children, but won’t pressure them to follow in his footsteps by becoming athletes.

‘I just want them to enjoy the game’, he said.

‘Being able to bond over something I love and share that with them will be enough.’
