Rafa Benitez was sacked by Everton on Sunday and Liverpool fans were quick to take to social media to make light of the situation.

Saturday’s defeat at Norwich was the final straw for Benitez, with his side having managed just one win in 13 league games. 

His time at the club came to an end in just seven months, the Spaniard only appointed as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor in June.

And it was a source of amusement for supporters of Everton’s local rivals with Benitez having managed them for six years. 

The nickname ‘Agent Rafa’ was soon trending, Reds fans joking the Rafa had been  working for them this whole time. 

‘Mission accomplished Agent Rafa, return to base,’ wrote one while another tweeted ‘Agent Rafa… return to HQ, job done.’

One simply said ‘we won;t forget what you’ve done’ as others commended him for securing an £11m pay-off.
