Christian Eriksen ‘is on the verge of sealing a return to the Premier League’

Christian Eriksen ‘is on the verge of sealing a sensational return to the Premier League and hopes to finalise a move THIS WEEK after being approached by several clubs’ – months after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020

  • Christian Eriksen could make a return to the Premier League this week
  • Eriksen hasn’t played since suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 in June 2021
  • The former Tottenham midfielder is a free agent and is wanted by several clubs

Christian Eriksen is reportedly close to securing a sensational return to the Premier League.

The midfielder hasn’t played since suffering a cardiac arrest while representing Denmark against Finland at Euro 2020 last summer.

Eriksen is a free agent after his contract at Inter Milan was terminated due to him not being allowed to play in Serie A with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

As reported by The Times, the 29-year-old has been approached by several unnamed English top flight clubs and could seal a return to the Premier League this week. There is also interest in Eriksen from clubs across Europe but he is eager to come back to England.

Eriksen played for Tottenham between 2013 and 2020, during which time he made 305 appearances, scored 69 goals and provided 90 assists. He has spent time training with Swiss club Chiasso and previously trained with Odense, where he played as a youngster.

Earlier this month Antonio Conte said the door is always open for Eriksen at Tottenham.

Conte said: ‘I didn’t speak recently with Christian. For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball. We are talking about a really important player. But especially a top man.

‘What happened this summer was not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him. I was scared in that moment.

‘And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.’

Eriksen previously stated his desire to play for Denmark at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

He said: ‘My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar. I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along. It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back.

‘I’m sure I can come back because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape. That’s been my goal and it’s still some time away, so until then I’m just going to play football and prove that I’m back at the same level.’
