Carlo Anclotti has targeted more silverware with Real Madrid after lifting his first trophy as a boss in more than four years.

The Italian saw his side secure the Spanish Super Cup title on Sunday thanks to a 2-0 victory in Riyadh against Athletic Bilbao, with goals from Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

It was the 62-year-old’s first title since 2017, when he won the German Super Cup with Bayern Munich.

Ancelotti’s side required a penalty shoot-out that day at Signal Iduna Park after a 2-2 draw, with Robert Lewandowski and a late Roman Burki own goal forcing the spot kicks in which Bayern eventually prevailed.

And with Real Madrid still very much in the hunt for trophies on all fronts this season, Ancelotti wants his side to maintain their hunger in a bid for a successful campaign.

‘This is a very good team and very good squad and I feel proud to be the coach,’ said after the game, as per Marca.

‘We will now keep competing in the other competitions.

‘We have our next match on Thursday [in the Copa del Rey] and it’s an important one.

‘These players have already won so much, but they’re still so committed. When you win a lot, you might think you’re the best and not work as hard, but they keep the same level.’

Madrid are currently top of LaLiga, sitting five points clear of Sevilla in second place – although their title rivals have a game in hand.

In Europe, Ancelotti’s men have been drawn against Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 of the Champions League, while they face Elche in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
