‘I am so sorry’: Phillip Schofield apologises to guest live on air after bursting into laughter as she GAGS while detailing her custard phobia

Phillip Schofield was forced to apologise to a guest live on air after he burst into laughter as they detailed their uncontrollable phobia of custard.

The moment unfolded on Monday’s This Morning when caller Michelle was loudly retching while explaining her hatred of the dessert to the show’s resident therapist Eva Speakman.

Eventually, Phillip, 59, told Michelle: ‘Listen, I am so sorry Michelle for laughing. But that really is just an extraordinary noise.’

He added: ‘I feel terrible for laughing like that but that’s just such a terrible noise.’

During the call, Eva was forced to refer to custard as ‘yellow stuff’ after Michelle gagged upon hearing the word custard when Eva remarked: ‘I see both you and the custard as equal victims here.’

Phillip covered his mouth in an attempt to disguise his laughter, however was unable to keep it under control as Michelle continued to gag at the thought of the dessert.

Even Phillip’s co-host, Rochelle Humes, smirked through the segment, as did Eva and her husband and fellow life coach Nik.

Phillip was joined by Rochelle, 32, on Monday’s This Morning and confirmed The Saturdays star will be by his side for the next fortnight as his regular co-host Holly Willoughby takes a break to film a new show.

Rochelle explained she would be ‘keeping Holly’s seat warm’ while she films Wim ‘Iceman’ Hof’s Superstar Survival with Lee Mack.

Phillip added: ‘She’s [Holly] off with the iceman. She’s making a show away at the moment. She’s off for two weeks.’

Although Holly won’t be back on the This Morning sofa until February, she will fly in from Southern Europe – where Superstar Survival is filmed – every weekend to present Dancing On Ice alongside Phillip.

The Sun confirmed earlier in January that Holly had been granted two and a half weeks off from This Morning to co-host a new BBC show.

Back in 2018, Holly stepped in for Ant McPartlin on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! after he took a break to receive help for alcohol and substance addiction.

Referring to that fill-in, a source told The Sun: ‘Holly loved I’m A Celeb so much it gave her the confidence to strike out on her own and do more mainstream solo TV projects.

‘She has high career ambitions and is starting the year as she means to go on.

‘However, she absolutely loves This Morning and her on-screen partnership with Phillip, so isn’t going anywhere long-term.

‘She’s just grateful ITV bosses are giving her the freedom to do her own projects.’

MailOnline contacted representatives for This Morning and Holly for comment at the time.
