Police in pursuit of four accused child abductors made a dramatic rescue on the side of a busy road, after a girl was allegedly snatched in broad daylight and bundled into a vehicle.
Dramatic footage of the incident shot from a police helicopter shows the moment Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers stopped the white Honda CRV at Kinta Drive, Beresfield, near Newcastle at about 2.20pm on Friday.
Two women – one of whom is known to the girl and understood to be a family member – and two men were arrested at the scene and the terrified girl has now been reunited with her father.
Police responded to reports the four-year-old had allegedly been kidnapped by a man and a woman about two hours earlier from a property on Midlands Terrace, Stanhope Gardens, in Sydney’s north-west.
‘Police were told a four-year-old girl was outside the location with her dad when a Honda CRV stopped nearby, and an unknown man and woman got out,’ NSW Police said.
‘The woman allegedly grabbed the girl and put her in the car while the man kept the girl’s father distracted. The vehicle then fled the scene.’
Immediately after, a major police operation commenced and with assistance from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and PolAir, as the car travelled north on the M1 motorway

‘The girl was located in the vehicle uninjured. Local police are making arrangements to reunite the girl with her father,’ police said.
They were both taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station to assist with inquiries.
An investigation is now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.
