A woman has divided opinion after revealing she filmed a man at the gym and was ‘relieved’ to find he hadn’t been staring at her while she was working out.

Libby Christensen, 22, from Kansas, set up a camera to film herself as she squatted on a machine at the gym.

Sitting on a bench behind her was a man, who she said made her feel ‘uncomfy’ at the time because she feared he was checking her out while she was exercising.

However when she checked the clip back she was relieved to see he was working out himself and that ‘her booty wasn’t her focus’.

While some commenters agreed with her, others questioned why she had filmed him at all and said it ‘crossed a line’ and invaded his privacy.

The man is seen looking down at his hands before briefly looking directly at the camera and then lying down on a bench.

Explaining the situation, Libby wrote: ‘I just need to shout out this man who was behind me hack squatting because I was so uncomfy that I was being stared down but very thankful that my booty was not his focus.

‘I watched this back and felt at ease.’

The video has been viewed more than 5.5million times in the two weeks since it was posted.

Commenters who viewed the video were less pleased at her discovery, with many claiming she had crossed a line by recording him at all.

One person said: ‘If I was him I’d feel uncomfortable for being filmed without consent.’

Another commenter agreed saying: ‘I’m so glad my gym doesn’t allow filming inside… #1 fear is trying to live my life and ending up on a TikTok.’

A third person felt that men not staring at women in gyms was normal: ‘I think there’s more guys doing everything they can to make sure it’s very clear they’re not staring at women in the gym.’

Commenters were outraged that Libby had filmed the man without his consent and thought it was hypocritical

Some people however were in support of Libby sharing her clip.

One person wrote: ‘I love that you’re getting hate for recognizing good behavior we need to see more of. I appreciate you sharing and constantly inspiring!’

Sometimes we stare at the floor while walking around or lifting just so someone doesn’t think we’re staring

Another person simply said: ‘A king in the wild.’
