Dele Alli should leave Tottenham and would be a ‘different player’ at Manchester City, says ex-Premier League boss Neil Warnock.

The playmaker has fallen out of favour at Spurs under three different managers, with Antonio Conte the latest to be unable to rejuvenate the 25-year-old’s career after he was dropped consistently by Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo.

The English midfielder – a star at the 2018 World Cup – has thus been linked with a move to Newcastle this month and ex-Middlesbrough, Cardiff and Sheffield Utd boss Warnock insists Alli needs to leave the north London club.

‘He’s got to go,’ Warnock told talkSPORT.

‘I’ll be honest with you, though, when you look at Dele Alli, if you put him in Man City’s team you would see a different player.

‘You’ve got to have a decent back line to start with. Tottenham haven’t had a decent back line for ages.

‘He roves in a No.10 role and he’s as good as owt when he was. But they’re not getting that ball, they’re having to fight for everything to get a look in.

‘Because they are not good enough at the back, it opens all the positions. That’s why he’s got to go.

‘He will find somewhere as he’s a good player when he’s on, but he’s just gone backwards.’

Roy Keane suggested on Sunday that Alli needs to leave Tottenham to reignite his career, even adding that Newcastle should be the club to sign him.
