Lost his bottle! Moment reveller’s attempt to open champagne with a knife goes wrong

  • Footage shared on January 22 shows man struggling with the bottle in Missouri
  • He tries to use knife to saber it multiple times to open it but is unsuccessful
  • On third attempt the bottle shatters and showers him in champagne

This is the moment that sabering a bottle of champagne went hilariously wrong.

Footage recorded in Missouri and shared on January 22 shows a man struggling to open the bottle with a knife in a trick called sabering.

He hits the neck of the bottle with the blade several times but no avail, before losing his grip and sending the bottle smashing onto the floor.

But he is unsuccessful, struggling to master the art of sabering

In the video, he stands with the champagne and a knife and moves to saber it.

However, nothing happens and the bottle does not open so he tries again.

When done properly, the cork shoots off the top of the bottle in a dramatic fashion along with a green ring of glass.

But on the man’s third try, the bottle slips out of his hand and the glass hits the floor.

As the glass shatters on the floor and creates a puddle of champagne, he begins to laugh.

The camera pans back to him as he continues chuckling, realising he has failed to crack the art of sabering.

The funny footage was filmed on January 1 and appears to show New Year’s celebrations.

Sabering is an old French tradition in which cavalry officers would use their sabre to open a bottle of champagne by running the blade along the seam and striking the edge of the bottle neck.

It is a tricky art to master and it does not always work, as shown in another clip taken at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

The video captures Michael Minnillo, general manager of French Laundry, allegedly attempting a dramatic opening of a £1,500 bottle of Billecart-Salmon brut.

Unfortunately, the bottle explodes in dramatic fashion, showering the chefs at the San Francisco restaurant in champagne.
