Jorginho has warned his Chelsea team-mates that Palmeiras will be desperate to claim a European scalp when they meet in Saturday’s Club World Cup final.

The Blues, who qualified for the Abu Dhabi showpiece by winning the Champions League last season, picked up a narrow 1-0 win over Asian champions Al-Hilal on Wednesday night to book their place in the final.

As for Palmeiras, the Brazilian club who won last year’s Copa Libertadores, they ran out 2-0 winners in their semi-final showdown with African kings Al Ahly on Tuesday.

Abel Ferreira’s men will therefore lock horns with Chelsea in this weekend’s all-important final at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium.

And Italy midfielder Jorginho, who was born in Brazil, expects Palmeiras to ‘play for everything’ in Saturday’s encounter.

‘Palmeiras are going to play for everything,’ he said. ‘This is very important for a team in Brazil. I think probably [they want to prove they are better than European teams].

‘It is the opportunity for them to play against a team from Europe. For them, that’s a big thing. They are going to come for us. We need to be prepared for that.

‘It is the same for us but definitely we are going to give everything in this final and we need to be prepared.

‘It is always good to be in a final. It is another trophy and it is important for us. We have never won this cup. It’s important and we will give everything to bring the trophy home.’

Jorginho has the chance to add another trophy to his collection in Abu Dhabi, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and played a key part in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph last year.

The 30-year-old added: ‘It means a lot to me personally and I’m sure it means a lot to the club, because we’ve never won this trophy and this is the right time to bring this trophy home.

‘We need to stay humble because if you underestimate your opponents, you can be in trouble. You need to be prepared, train well, sleep well, eat well, do everything as professionally as you can to arrive in the game and be able to win.

‘It’s what we want to do, it’s what we like to do. We don’t like losing games and we want to bring this trophy home.’
