Frenkie de Jong wants to stay at Barcelona despite ‘big offers from elsewhere’, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has not had the impact expected at the Nou Camp since his move from Ajax in 2019.

Despite being a regular starter under Xavi, the Dutchman has struggled to perform at the standard expected of a £65m signing and was linked to a move away from Barcelona in January.

Bayern Munich were said to be interested in securing the services of the Barcelona midfielder in January, having contacted the player’s agent, while Chelsea were said to ‘have made an opening offer of £33million’ for him.

SPORT claimed that Liverpool were also ‘willing to pay’ for the Holland international.

Meanwhile, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be interested in his signature.

However, despite the rumoured ‘big offers’, De Jong is determined to succeed at the Nou Camp, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.

De Jong is aware that there is increased competition in midfield with the emergence of youngsters Gavi, 17, and Nico Gonzalez, 20, but he reportedly believes he can continue to improve in Xavi’s side.

Blaugrana boss Xavi remains a big fan of the Netherlands international, and he is prepared to help him get back to his best.

The club remain convinced he can play a vital role in their future, but there are also those that have reportedly been in favour of listening to offers for him if his performances did not improve.

The cash-strapped Catalan side could cash in a healthy sum for De Jong with Barcelona reportedly holding a £50m valuation of the player.
