An Atlanta nurse delivered a baby girl in a parking lot and then saved the newborn’s life when she stopped breathing.

Evelyn Davis, a public health nurse at a health center in Atlanta, has been labeled a ‘hero’ after a woman went into labor in the parking lot of her office – and she quickly jumped into action and helped deliver the baby.

Evelyn, who now works in the HIV/AIDS division, previously worked in labor and delivery – so when a woman ran into her office and started screaming that her granddaughter had gone into labor outside on February 9, she knew exactly what to do.

By the time Evelyn reached the expecting mother – whose identity has been kept hidden for privacy reasons – the baby was already almost out.

She said it was ‘chaotic’ and there were many onlookers ‘screaming,’ but thankfully, she was able to calm everyone down.

‘I checked her and the baby was right there and I knew it was matter of one or two or three pushes and everything would happen,’ she told Fox 5 Atlanta recently.

‘[It was] chaotic. There were people screaming, “She’s going to have the baby! Help her! Oh, Lord! What we gonna do? This is not a hospital. She should not be here!”

‘So, I just asked everyone to calm down and then got the mother to calm down. She was screaming trying to prevent the baby from coming and I told her not to do that because you’re gonna get a very strong contraction and that baby’s gonna fly out.’

Despite being in the parking lot of a health center, the center was not fit for childbirth and there were no delivery rooms inside.

The little girl was born after just a couple of pushes in the backseat of a car, but unfortunately, Evelyn – who has been a nurse for more than 20 years and helped deliver hundreds of babies early on her career – said the baby wasn’t breathing and began turning gray.

Thankfully, she was able to save the baby by rubbing its chest, and now she and the mother are both doing well.

Evelyn explained: ‘We had her wrapped up and I started rubbing her chest and I was like, “Come on baby, breathe, breathe, breathe, come on. Take a breath, baby.”

‘I just rubbed on the baby’s chest and she let out a scream. I was so happy.’

The woman and her grandmother were reportedly trying to get to a hospital but pulled over when her contractions became too intense.

Despite her heroic actions, Evelyn said she doesn’t feel like a hero, adding that she’s just relieved she was there to help.

‘I became a nurse to help people and I’m just glad I was here to help,’ she added. ’10 minutes later and this place would have been closed and no one would’ve been here to help.’
