Gary Neville is questioning whether either Mauricio Pochettino or Erik ten Hag are the right man for the Manchester United job.

PSG boss Pochettino and Ajax manager ten Hag remain the hot favourites to take over the Red Devils hot seat in the summer from current interim head coach Ralf Rangnick.

But the former Old Trafford legend is unsure who is the right man to turn United’s fortunes around and make them become a contender once again – having failed to win any silverware since 2017.

Mauricio Pochettino is also linked with the Red Devils job

Gary Neville has questioned whether either Erik ten Hag (left) or Mauricio Pochettino (right) are the right man for the Manchester United job

It is also a question of whether both bosses would be keen to leave their current clubs to take on the role.

‘If you look at Pochettino and Ten Hag who are the two that keep getting mentioned,’ Neville told Sky Sports.

‘Pochettino we don’t even know if they can get from Paris Saint-Germain. Have they got the personality to come in to Manchester United?

‘The scale of the club, the issues that exist there at this moment in time – are they able to have the personality and character and the strategic planning of how to manage up and down?

‘To influence up, to take over the planning of the training ground, to redevelop the stadium, all the stuff you think a great manager would do.

‘I’m not sure Pochettino and ten Hag have got that in them.’

Fellow pundits Jamie Redknapp and Roy Keane re-iterated how important it is for Man United to get the next manager right or they’ll find themselves falling further behind the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

‘United’s next move has to be to get the right manager,’ Redknapp said.

‘The profile of player has to be important, but the manager needs to be the one they get right. That’s where the success comes from.’

Keane added: ‘It’s a huge decision for United over the next few months. They’ve got to get it right.

‘It’s a huge decision in Manchester United’s history. If they don’t get this right again they are so far behind. Who the man is I don’t know but they’ve got to get it right.’

Another name now being put in the frame for the job is Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl, but it is believed Pochettino and Ten Hag remain the top targets, with the club due to start talks with both manager’s in the coming weeks.

United currently sit fourth in the Premier League, but Arsenal are on their tails, just two points behind with three games in hand.

Ralf Rangnick has the tough job of ensuring Man United finish in the top four to ensure Champions League football for whoever takes over the reins.
