Kate Lawler admits to feeling ‘terrifying, dark thoughts’ after giving birth as she accepts award

Kate Lawler has admitted that having her daughter Noa, one, was the ‘hardest thing I have ever done’ and that she felt ‘regret’ starting a family.

The television personality, 41, made the revelation while accepting a GLOMAMA Award for ‘Favourite New Mama’.

The GLOMAMA Awards are the worlds first people’s choice awards celebrating the achievements of mothers on social media.

Dubbed the ‘Baftas’ for mothers, GLOMAMA shines a spotlight on those who through their social media posts, inspire others to GLO, one post at a time.

Kate accepted the award via video, where she kept things casual by staying in her pyjamas with her daughter Noa. 

The Big Brother has been extremely open and honest about her journey into motherhood and confessed in her acceptance speech that it was ‘challenging’ but ‘rewarding’.

She said: ‘It is the hardest thing I have ever done, it is challenging, it is tough but it is so rewarding and it’s hilarious.’

Kate admitted to being an over-sharer but says that by sharing the highs and lows on social media that she hopes to have helped other parents.

She said: ‘You may wonder how it’s possible to feel so much regret when you felt so ready to create a new life. There will be times you wish you could be the person you were before you gave birth or wonder if you’ll ever be happy again…’

‘When you can’t stop crying or control the most terrifying, darkest thoughts inside your head… when you’re on the floor, unable to get up because you feel so broken, or notice feelings of resentment towards a partner who doesn’t have the same amount of responsibility as you… 

‘When the sleepless nights, the constant fear that something bad might happen to your child, the anguish of not knowing how to stop your baby crying or when you doubt your ability to be a mum or dad becomes all too overwhelming – just remember, all of this WILL pass…’

Kate has recently written a book, Maybe Baby, On The Mother Side, which follows her journey of going back and forth about having children, to how she navigates life with her baby and all of the feelings that have come along with having her. 

She covers topics such as mum guilt, post-natal depression, sleepless nights, and all of the other ‘taboo’ issues that come with parenthood.

The award comes after Kate, her fiancé Martin and their family recently celebrated her daughter Noa’s first birthday.

She looked every inch the doting mother as she snapped a slew of pictures and captioned the post: ‘NOA’S 1st BIRTHDAY’

The television personality who shares Noa with Martin, has spoken about her struggle after giving birth to their first child in a candid interview.

Earlier this year, Kate told The Sun that the first eight weeks after giving birth were the ‘darkest place’ she’d ever been to.

Speaking about Martin she said: ‘He really wanted to be a dad and there was a little bit of worry there for him in the beginning, thinking that he’d made me do this. Like: ‘Goodness, she’s going to blame me for this…’ 

‘And yeah, I definitely had thoughts of resentment, moments where I thought to myself: ‘Why did I let him convince me this would be a good idea?
