Not his first rodeo? Prince Harry turns cowboy – and more on this week’s unmissable royal chat show

Despite his wife’s principled stance on animal rights, Prince Harry was this week photographed mingling at a Texas rodeo, not a sport known for its creature care. The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden speculates that it could be part of Harry’s multimillion-pound media commitments. 

‘I smell a rat, it must for some TV show – Harry meets America, or something cringemaking like that,’ he says. ‘But what’s upsetting is that we haven’t seen Harry on a horse or anything. His excuse was that his equipment had been lost on the flight or something.’

Meanwhile, his father has again been hearing the stories of refugees and raising awareness of their plight. It’s a cause that might in the past have led to accusations that he was getting involved in politics. 

But for The Daily Mail’s columnist Sarah Vine, his words have been a useful moral guide in this humanitarian crisis. 

‘This is where someone like him can be really useful in nudging the Government in the right direction to get things right, because they haven’t been covering themselves in glory,’ she tells the programme. 

‘I think he’s right, and it will make a difference and it’s actually an important difference to make I think.’ 

The Prince of Wales has been less forthcoming on any help or loans he may have given his brother Andrew to help him pay a settlement or legal fees after his civil claim, which could be up to £12million.  

It’s been the subject of much media attention, but Andrew’s representatives, Buckingham Palace and Clarence House are all refusing to comment on it, a fact that puzzles The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English. 

‘That’s led to the rise of some quite erroneous reporting or conjecture that public money might be used for this,’ she says. 

‘It’s very clear, the sovereign grant is ringfenced, the money the Queen gets to do her job as head of state will never go to Andrew.  

‘But of course, they do have private fortunes, and people will say that their private money really is our money at the end of the day… Unfortunately, I’m not sure that we’re ever going to get to the bottom of this issue.’
