‘Then once brown, straight into the freezer skin on for baking. Sometimes remove skins and chop into pieces and freeze for smoothies!’

‘No question has ever made me angrier before,’ wrote one woman. ‘What kind of person puts their bananas in the fridge?’

‘The same kind that put their bread in the freezer,’ replied another.

‘I really don’t have the time to fight over where I put my bread,’ replied a third in the comment thread. ‘This is about bananas!’

Many were solely on the side of benchtop storage.

‘The fruit bowl with foil over them is perfect in the winter,’ said one mum. ‘But not so sure about “storage” – my kids devour them in minutes when they’re lying out.’

‘Fridge bananas go black so quickly,’ wrote one man. ‘They seem ripe on the inside, but the skin grosses me out.’

While others preferred the fridge for various reasons.

‘They ripen too quickly if they’re not in the fridge where I live,’ shared one man. ‘The curse of tropical climates!

‘Definitely in the fridge,’ wrote one woman. ‘They last longer, and cold bananas are so nice to eat.’

Another added, ‘I store them in the fridge but only because I have mice.’

But many shared surprising variations of their banana-storing practices.

‘I remove the skin and place them in containers easier for me when I need to use them,’ said one man.

‘I actually stick them in the freezer as soon as they’re ripe,’ added another. ‘They last so much longer!’

However a surprising few were unaware of the debate in the first place.

‘I didn’t know that storing them in the fridge was an option!’ wrote one woman. ‘I’ve always kept them in a basket.’

‘This is the first I’m hearing of bananas going in the fridge,’ said another. ‘You learn something new everyday.’
