Tommy Fury is still sticking to the gruelling training regime of having his torso pounded by a medicine ball ahead of his eighth professional fight.

Tyson Fury’s younger brother will be on the undercard of the Gypsy King’s heavyweight showdown with Dillian Whyte on April 23.

And the 22-year-old Love Island star has given an insight into his training camp, revealing the punishing training drill has continued following recovery from a broken rib.

That fracture ended the match-up with YouTuber Jake Paul with fans questioning whether the exercise led to the injury, but Fury has quashed those suggestions.

‘We’re still doing it because that’s not what caused the injury,’ he told the Queensbury Promotions YouTube channel.

‘I’ve done the medicine ball throughout my whole life. I’ve been doing it for 20 years.

‘That’s not what caused the injury, again I know it’s way back when, but for people out there who don’t know and think that’s what caused the injury, that is not what caused the injury.

‘That is a very good technique to get the abs and the core ready for the fight so I won’t be cutting that out. But at the end of the day we’re just training more smartly now and nursing it.’

Tyson Fury has uploaded a clip of him undergoing the tough regime on social media in the past while he and Tommy have been seen doing the core work when training together.

The Gypsy King revels in the exercise as he shouts ‘break a f****** rib, I like it’ before continuously shouting ‘break one’ as he turns his body so that both sides don’t escape the pummelling.

Tommy Fury’s doctor leapt to his defence after he pulled out of his fight against Paul, saying he took ‘100 per cent responsibility’ for the withdrawal last year.

‘Tommy was desperately wanting to fight,’ Usman Sajjad explained on Instagram.

‘He said “give me an injection a week, we’re going to do whatever it takes”, but I had to say, “no – this could be a life threatening thing”. There was a risk of Pneumothorax (collapsed lung), if you get tapped there during training or the fight that’s a medical emergency.

‘You’d be short of breath and it could lead to a cardiac arrest.

‘Tommy was desperate on fighting, and you need to realise these fighters are not robots, they’re human beings and going into the ring with a broken rib, I’d rather go into the ring with a broken hand.

‘I take 100 per cent responsibility for pulling him out and I’m sure his dad does as well.

‘We made the decision as a team – I gave my medical report, the scan findings and his dad pulled him out.’

Tommy Fury faces Poland’s Daniel Bocianski, 27, in one of six bouts before the British heavyweights settle their bitter rivalry.

‘I am delighted that Tommy Fury will get to share some of the spotlight with his big brother after missing out on his big fight last year through illness,’ promoter Frank Warren said.

‘If Tommy keeps on winning and continues to shine, his big opportunities will soon follow.’
