Van de Beek earned a reputation as a promising young player at Ajax, with whom he won the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup in 2018-19 having previously reached the final of the Europa League in 2017, when the Dutch side lost to United.

In August 2020 van de Beek signed for United, but the move hasn’t gone to plan so far as he often found himself on the periphery of proceedings, especially while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.

Having grown frustrated with his situation at Old Trafford, van de Beek joined Everton on loan at the end of January.

Van de Beek has featured more prominently for Everton, making six Premier League appearances so far, but he has been absent recently because of a thigh problem.

He will hope to finish the season strongly by helping Everton to avoid relegation, with there being uncertainty over his future beyond that as he is due to return to United in the summer.
