TV star Shelly Horton reveals why Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding is convincing her to change her FIRST name – after the star took his fiance’s surname

  • Australian television host Shelly Horton is pondering changing her name
  • Shelly, 48, married Darren Robinson in 2015 and said her first name is Michelle
  • She might change her name after Brooklyn Beckham took his fiancé’s name
  • If she goes through with it she’ll legally become Shelly Robinson Horton

Television personality and host Shelly Horton is considering changing her name after Brooklyn Beckham added his fiancé Nicola Peltz’s surname to his own.

The 48-year-old, from the Gold Coast in Queensland, met her now-husband Darren Robinson nine years ago and the two exchanged nuptials in 2015.

But she revealed her real first name is Michelle, and so she’s reconsidering legally changing her name to Shelly while also taking Robinson as a middle name.

‘I figure if I’m going to go through the rigmarole of changing my name by deed poll to add Robinson as one of my middle names, then I may as well finally change my first name to Shelly,’ she told Nine Honey.

Shelly said going by two names has proven to be challenging at times – particularly when passing through airport security or taking reservations.

‘I have to book all of my plane tickets as Michelle. I’ve had that difficult situation where a client booked a flight for me and I forget to tell them my real name. I turned up at the airport and the ticket was made out to Shelly Horton,’ she said.

As a result, she’s needed to rebook flights due to the confusion between the two names.

Explaining why she hasn’t previously taken her partner’s name, Shelly said she believes your name is your identity and everyone should have the choice to take someone else’s name.

‘I personally have chosen not to change my name and feel quite strongly that I have made the right decision for me, because firstly, I feel like my name is mine and why would I surrender it and adopt a man’s name?’ she said.

‘Secondly, your name is your identity and I’ve been married twice, so I would’ve diluted my brand threefold by now, which to me seems ludicrous.’

The Peltz-Beckham wedding took place earlier this week with Brooklyn deciding to change his name to Brooklyn Joseph Peltz Beckham, while his wife will become Nicola Peltz Beckham.

But unlike the celebrity couple, Darren likely won’t take Shelly’s last name as a middle name.

Also unlike Nicola, Shelly isn’t changing her surname and will keep Horton at the end of her name.
