Marks & Spencer is expanding its foray into the burgeoning rent-to-wear market.

The British high street stalwart launched its first rentable collection in November last year and is now offering spring looks ideal for everything from family BBQs and weddings.

Instead of buying a piece outright, customers pay a fee to rent a garment from platform Hirestreet.co.uk for a period of between four and 30 days then send it back.

Prices start from just £10 for four days, offering an affordable option for women looking for a way to revamp their wardrobe without the environmental or financial cost of buying new clothes.

After launching a rental range last year, Marks & Spencer has expanded their lending service with British website Hirestreet with prices starting for as little as £10. Pieces include a floral Autograph jumpsuit which costs £89 to buy and £16 to rent for four days

Pieces include an M&S rose-coloured blazer jacket which costs £45 to buy and £10 to rent

A floral Ghost dress is available to buy at £69 and to rent at £13

Items do not need to be cleaned before being returned because the rental platform, Hirestreet, has the garments professionally dry-cleaned for the next customer.

There is also an option to order a ‘bundle’ of three outfits for 30 days for £50, giving customers the option to mix and match their rented items.

Shoppers can get their hands on a new range of coats, jumpers, trousers and dresses, including a £99 blue dress worn by Lorraine Kelly that is available from £18 for four days.

A pair of £179 leather trousers are available to rent for £30 for four days and a £79 satin Ghost wrap dress available to hire for just £15 for four days.

Rentable fashion has become a popular alternative to fast fashion at a time where concerns over the environment is having a profound impact on the way we stock our wardrobes.

While renting is particularly interesting to fans of high fashion, an increasing number of online retailers including ASOS are turning to the rental market to be more eco-friendly.

M&S managing director of clothing and home Richard Price commented: ‘We know customers are increasingly interested in the circular economy and rental which is why we started our exciting partnership with Hirestreet last year.

‘The feedback so far has been great with Hirestreet users discovering the everyday style & value of our clothing on the platform.

‘We’re continuing to test & learn this Spring/Summer with a new collection which is perfect for a range of occasions – including the holidays and special events we know consumers are really looking forward to.’

Hirestreet strategy lead Rosie Hartman added: ‘We are delighted to continue our partnership with M&S, with the launch of the Spring collection, making this our largest ever retailer collaboration.

‘With a reputation for stylish and quality clothing, M&S items have proved popular from the moment they launched on Hirestreet.

‘Clothing rental is often associated with special occasions, but the popularity of M&S clothes, many of which are versatile for any occasion, demonstrates how the future of fashion rental is changing – today rental fashion is more than just providing temporary access to designer items.’
