After bank holiday sun…a touch of frost! Temperatures will plunge to -3C overnight

Good luck finding a space! Brits scramble to beauty spots and beaches to make the most of the good Easter weather on last day of bank holiday before -3C frost

  • There were temperatures as high as 21C on Easter Sunday in some places in UK, prompting coastal exodus
  • But the glorious conditions are feared to be short-lived ahead of some wet weather predicted for the week
  • Green-fingered gardeners who have planted their seeds might also need more as frost feared to be coming

Car parks across Britain were packed today as families squeezed the last drop of joy out of the sunny Easter Weekend – ahead of sub zero frost predicted later this week.

Scenic locations along the coast have been filled with sun-seekers in their trunks and swimming costumes and most of them appear to have travelled there by car.

People were queuing to get into the popular Dovestones beauty spot on the edge of Greater Manchester today.

An aerial view showed jams and wall to wall cars and fans covering almost every spot of concrete on the ground.

Word may have got round that meteorologists fear waterproofs will be more appropriate than shorts and T-shirts for the rest of the week.

Those who took advantage to get their plants into the ground for the rest of the year might also be facing heartbreak by Wednesday.

Met Office forecaster Tom Morgan warned: ‘It’s not great news for gardeners.

‘They may have spent the weekend planting beneath the sun but we could see patchy frosts by Wednesday which could undo all of their hard work.

‘Some rural spots could drop to -3C through the first part of the week.

‘It will feel more spring-like during the day, despite the occasional showers, but not in the mornings or overnight.’

British people have hit beaches and beauty spots up and down the country today as the mercury looks likely to hit 21C on Easter Sunday amid scorching bank-holiday temperatures – before miserable weather of cloud and rain sweeps in tomorrow.
