Duchess of Cambridge recycled white Alexander McQueen coat dress

The Duchess of Cambridge proved her sustainable fashion prowess once again today after dazzling in a white recycled ensemble when arriving at the Westminster Abbey alongside her husband the Duke to commemorate Anzac Day.

Kate Middleton, 40, cut a stylish figure in a white Alexander McQueen coat dress for the occasion, pairing the stunning piece with Princess Diana’s Collingwood earrings, a matching headband by milliner Jane Taylor and black accessories.

The mother-of-three, who is known for her love of high street brands and repeating her outfits, wore the dress for her daughter Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015.

She also wore the dress to Meghan Markle’s and Prince Harry’s wedding in 2018, an event in Belgium in 2017 and Trooping The Colour in 2016.

The traditional church service in the abbey featured an address by the Dean of Westminster, readings from the New Zealand and Australian high commissioners, prayers read by children of each country, and a Maori waiata performed by London-based Ngati Ranana London Maori Club.

Earlier today, Prince William, 39, attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on behalf of the Queen.

Anzac Day – April 25 – marks the anniversary of the start of the First World War Gallipoli landings, and is a national day of remembrance for Australia and New Zealand.

Known for recycling outfits, the Duchess first wore the McQueen number in 2015 for her daughter’s christening. The sharp streamlined ivory number contrasted against Charlotte’s ruffles.

Kate wore earrings and a necklace by Mappin & Webb as she pushed Charlotte in a traditional-style black pram whilst George walked by his parents’ side.

Today the Duchess swept her brunette locks behind her shoulders for the occasion, donning a smart white headband with a trendy black bow at the back.

She wore the dress a second time in 2016 for Trooping The Colour, The Queen’s birthday parade, in London.

For the event she styled the outfit with big pearl earrings and a blush pink hat to coordinate with Princess Charlotte, who was also in pink.

In Belgium in July 2017 the Duchess wore the outfit a third time to attend a ceremony marking the battle of Passchendaele 100th Anniversary.

For the poignant event in Ypres, Kate wore her elegant Alexander McQueen coat dress with a matching hat, which she teamed with a pair of grey suede heels and matching purse.

The last time that Kate recycled the dress, before today at Westminster, was for Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May 2018.

The Duchess of Cambridge arrived to the wedding in what Kensington Palace referred to as a ‘primrose yellow wool silk tailored coat’ by Alexander McQueen. Her hat was designed by Philip Treacy and her shoes were Jimmy Choo.

Kate entered the ceremony holding the hand of Princess Charlotte, who served as a bridesmaid.

Today the Duchess donned Diana’s Collingwood earrings for the service. Kate regularly wears jewellery that honours her mother-in-law, including her sapphire engagement ring, which once belonged to Diana.

Kate kept her makeup neutral for the outing, opting for a sweep of blush and a dash of black eyeliner

The Duchess could be seen carrying a pair of white Cornelia James for the occasion.

Kate is no stranger to recycling outfits and has long been a champion of repeat-wearing.

In 2012 she opted for a cream Roland Mouret gown for a dinner at London’s Claridges, before re-wearing the same dress for the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom a year later.

And more recently she re-wore a glittering Jenny Packham gown at the Royal Variety Show in 2021, which she first debuted during a tour of Pakistan in 2019.
