Esi, who goes by the TikTok name @serendipesi, posted a now-viral video demonstrating the simple hack using two common items – an elastic band and a bangle.

The easy trick will assist thousands of women who have experienced buying a dress online only to find it doesn’t quite fit right.

In the video, the silk dress is slightly too big for Esi’s tiny waist and excess fabric can be seen gaping at the back.

To rid of the additional material she used what looks like an affordable bangle and an elastic band.

While wearing the dress inside out and backwards, Esi tied the material around the bangle then used the elastic band to hold it on place.

When worn the correct way the dress is pulled in slightly creating the perfect hourglass fit.

The video has since been viewed a staggering 5.4million times with thousands of girls tagging their friends in the comments to share the hack further.

‘I love this idea!’ one person wrote, another added: ‘This is actual fashion magic.’

‘Wow it’s really useful and so pretty at the same time. I have to try it,’ a third added.

The hack would work best with slip dresses as the material is light, while other fabric – such as polyester – might be harder to use.

The bangles can also be tied to the front or side for an alternative look.
