John David Duggar and his wife Abbie announce they’re expecting baby number two

John David Duggar and his wife, Abbie, announced this weekend that they are expecting baby number two after a difficult first pregnancy.

Abbie, 29, debuted her baby bump on Instagram on Sunday, cradling it in one hand and holding onto her two-year-old daughter, Grace, with the other.

‘To the little girl who calls me Mommy and our little boy due in late summer, I’ll love you forever!’ she wrote.

John David, 32, married later in life than most of his siblings — and with he and Abbie only on their second child, they’re likely to have a much smaller brood than his parents’ 19 children.

Abbie may also be inclined to fewer and more spaced-out pregnancies after a difficult time while carrying her first.

Tthe first trimester was particularly rough for Abbie, who suffered from severe morning sickness.

‘It hit her hard, and she was down for probably seven weeks with severe morning sickness,’ John David told Us Weekly at the time. ‘She got diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum, and she was hospitalized a couple times.’

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a complication in which pregnant women experience severe nausea and vomiting, which frequently leads to dehydration.

Celebrities including the Duchess of Cambridge, Kelly Clarkson, and Amy Schumer also experienced it.

‘We made multiple visits to the ER for dehydration,’ John David explained. ‘She couldn’t eat, pretty much, or drink, or anything. So she was actually on IVs and had IVs at home. So that was a pretty scary time.’

He added that he was taking especially good care of his wife.

‘I keep her water filled up, and her snacks for her. I keep her eating and just comfortable. Anything I can get for her, I try to. I run to the store, [get] whatever she needs, just keep her as comfortable as possible when she’s feeling bad.’

She then struggled through 36 hours of labor to give birth.

‘My body obviously wasn’t making progress, and I was really exhausted,’ she said in a TLC webisode of Counting On.

Abbie and John David’s son will be among a baby boy boom for the Duggars.

Last week, Jed, 23, and his new bride Katey, also 23, welcomed a baby boy named Truett Oliver Duggar — just 13 months after getting married.

Jill and her husband, Derick Dillard, are also expecting a son when baby number three comes later this year

‘He’s here! We love you so much, baby True!’ they wrote on Instagram.

They added that baby True was born on Monday, May 2 at 6:34 p.m. weighing 8 lb. 5 oz. and measuring 20.5 inches.

They picked the name Truett because they say it means ‘warrior for Christ,’ while Oliver means ‘peace.’

Meanwhile, Jill and her husband, Derick Dillard, are also expecting a son when baby number three comes later this year.

Duggar watchers have also speculated that Josiah and his wife Lauren and Joe and his wife Kendra are also expecting again.
