A little-known trick to cool a wine bottle in just ten minutes has blown the minds of hundreds – and all you need is a tea towel.

Television star Shelly Horton, from the Gold Coast in Queensland, shared the ‘genius’ life hack with her 44,000 Instagram followers.

To quickly chill the Riccadonna sparkling wine, she simply wrapped the bottle in a wet tea towel then placed it in the freezer for ten minutes.

‘It cools at like 5000 times the pace,’ Shelly said in a video.

After ten minutes, Shelly removed the bottle from the freezer to find the towel had lightly frozen over it, leaving her with chilled wine

The hack is ideal if you've forgotten to cool the alcohol prior to having guests over or enjoying a Friday night beverage

The hack is ideal if you’ve forgotten to cool the alcohol prior to having guests over or enjoying a Friday night beverage.

It’s believed that as the moisture in the towel evaporates it cools the bottle at a faster rate. 

White wine and sparkling wine should always be chilled before serving, while red wine is best served at room temperature. 

Overnight the video was viewed more than 11,000 times and many thanked Shelly for sharing the trick.

‘How am I only finding this out now?!’ one person wrote in the comments.
