NHS bosses have been told microaggressions can be more damaging than ‘overt acts of hate’.
Microagressions are statements that are perceived as indirect or unintentional discrimination, often of a racial nature.
Health chiefs were able to take a woke lecture on the NHS Leadership Academy website by an activist who said Brits are bound to be prejudiced because the UK ‘legalised oppression’, The Times reported.
British campaigner Nova Reid said microaggressions include asking ‘where are you from?’, ‘your hair’s like a sponge, can I touch it?’ and ‘are your family cleaners?’.
Hertfordshire author and former actress said statements such as these can cause PTSD.

She added: ‘Growing up in leafy Hertfordshire in the ’80s in England, I stood out like a sore thumb.
‘I have a vivid memory of being about seven years old, walking to primary school. I noticed a young girl on the other side of the road with her mother.
‘She pointed at me, and she said, ‘Mummy, Mummy, why is that girl the same colour as poo-poo?’
‘To my parents’ devastation, it was from that moment I became obsessed with washing.’
‘It wasn’t men in white vans shouting monkey chants at me that impacted me the most. It was that moment.’
In her 2019 TedxTalk, Ms Reid quoted research that said: ‘Regular exposure to racial microaggressions can cause more harm than overt acts of hate.’

The NHS Leadership Academy said its ‘aim [was] to help everyone in the NHS discover their full leadership potential and achieve the highest standards in health and care’.
A spokesman for NHS England said: ‘This is not an NHS video and these online courses are not part of any required training.’
