Screen Australia announces $5.5million in funding including two feature films and a series with popular TikTok performer Samantha Andrews
Screen Australia has announced $5.5million of production funding for eight projects, including two feature films, two series for children and four online programs.
Among the approved projects is Cool Mum, a 12-part TikTok comedy series starring 27-year-old performer Samantha Andrews, who boasts more than 12 million likes on the video-sharing app.
The series follows a non-binary teen, Pat, who comes out to their excitable mother, who then takes the news public.

Popular live action ABC children’s series The PM’s Daughter has received Screen Australia support for its second season.
The show’s first season debuted in January, and stars Cassandra Helmot in the title role as a teenage activist whose single mum is unexpectedly made Prime Minister of Australia.
Animated series Little J and Big Cuz will return for a fourth season thanks to Screen Australia funding.
Produced in collaboration with ABC and NITV, the show is about First Nations kids who learn about culture, community and country from their Nanna and an old dog.

Actor-filmmaker Mirrah Foulkes, 41, has secured production funding for a thriller called Runaway, based on a short story by Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro.
Produced by See-Saw Films, the team behind Lion and The Power of the Dog, this will be Foulkes’ second feature after making her directorial debut in 2019 with the comedy-drama Judy and Punch.
200% Wolf is the working title for the other feature announced in this round of Screen Australia funding.

The project, helmed by filmmaker Alexs Stadermann and writer Fin Edquist, is a sequel to the animated family feature 100% Wolf, about cute werewolves.
Other funded online projects include It’s a Jungle Out Here, a seven-part documentary-comedy wildlife series about two teenage filmmakers, and No Ordinary Love, a five-part YouTube series about exes searching for a missing bride.
Finally, there is Salma’s Season, a six-part YouTube series about a Pakistani-Australian wife and mother who dreams of competing at the Australian Open, even though she has never picked up a tennis racket in her life.
