But he is still waiting to meet the man tasked with leading Chelsea out of the Roman Abramovich era.

The manager also claimed he has yet to find out his budget for the transfer window.

‘Absolutely not. Maybe if I had, I would not tell you! But I do not have so I don’t need to lie,’ Tuchel said on Tuesday.

‘Nothing has changed for us at Cobham, we are still waiting for the confirmation, for things to progress, to hopefully have news for you and for us, for the team, to inject some positive energy.

‘It feels like it will come to an end and give us possibilities to act but at this very moment it is not like this.’

Tuchel insists nothing has changed, but he is hoping the news will inject some positive energy

He added: ‘We are the only club in the moment that suffers like this, maybe the first club that ever did this.

‘It is a situation that is unique and a situation that is quite challenging. Of course, everybody hopes for the situation to be clarified.

‘These are steps in the right direction. We are waiting for it since a long time.

‘We need the positive energy and competitive atmosphere at the club. It is very important for things to progress.’

Chelsea have won only one of their last five matches and Tuchel admits the ‘circumstances around the club’, after sanctions were placed on Abramovich, have left his squad looking ‘a bit drained and tired mentally.’

Chelsea have won only one of their last five matches and have been distracted by the situation

‘There’s no sense in hiding from the fact that it is a distraction,’ he said.

‘We did excellent until the international break, it had no effect in terms of results. It had almost the opposite effect.

‘We felt strong during the difficulties and the announcement, the sanctions in place.’

Now though, the German added: ‘With everyday it gets a bit more difficult, not impossible.

‘We are still looking to reach the level and be competitive, win games. It is no excuse but for sure is a reason.’

Chelsea will look to cement a top-four place when they travel to relegation-threatened Leeds on Wednesday night.
