‘Someone told me I was their kindred spirit. I stopped seeing them straight away, it was too much too soon,’ one woman wrote.

‘Even in the texting stage I can get easily turned off by keenness … if I went on a date with someone who acted like we were already in the honeymoon phase of a committed relationship, I’d be very overwhelmed,’ another added.

A single man said: ‘It’s only happened to me online texting. The other person claimed they were in love with me after ten minutes.’

Other offered their advice and encouraged singles to be their authentic selves when getting to know someone.

‘Just go on any date as long as you both can talk and listen to one another. Don’t be fake and don’t bring your excess baggage along,’ one man wrote.

‘The first date is essentially a ‘meet and greet’ to see if there’s chemistry, attraction and common ground,’ a single woman commented, adding: The second date is to scratch the surface, so to speak, and get to know them a little better.’

‘For me, anything over the top, is a distraction from getting to know him,’ she said.

Another man said the first date lasts no longer than 45 minutes over a drink or two, which is followed up with a second date if there’s a ‘spark’.
