Labour activists who enjoyed a beer and curry with Sir Keir Starmer during lockdown are set to receive questionnaires from the police this week.

Durham Constabulary will begin contacting the 15 who attended the notorious late-night ‘Beergate’ gathering on April 30 last year, it was reported yesterday.

It comes as Sir Keir was branded a hypocrite by 63 per cent of voters for stirring up the Partygate row.

A poll for The Sun on Sunday suggested the majority believe the Labour leader should quit if he is fined by police. And 61 per cent said if he does quit, then Boris Johnson must go too.

Last week Sir Keir said he would step down if fined over the event at Durham Miners Hall, after calling on the Prime Minister to resign in January when police launched an inquiry into claims of lockdown-busting events in No 10.

The Mail revealed Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner was also present. But yesterday party insiders said she faces being ‘thrown to the wolves’ over the gathering.
