The world is captured in all its glory in prize-winning pictures for the Global Photo Awards 2022

The winners of the 2022 Global Photo Awards have been announced, showcasing some exceptional pictures which won the photographers a cut of $10,000 in prize money.

The photographic competition rewards those winning the top spots of two main categories, people and nature, with each category winner taking home a generous $3,500. Runners-up are set to receive $1,000 and those taking third place will bring home $500 each.

Myanmar photographer Zay Yar Lin’s ‘Mangrove Fisherman’ taken in Inle Lake, Myanmar, clinched the top spot on the people category.

And Spanish photographer Pedro Luis Ajuriaguerra Saiz’s stunning macro shot called ‘Damselfly’, taken in San Cristobal de Almendres, Burgos, Spain, took first place in the nature category. Spanish photographers fared particularly well in this year’s competition with Samuel de Román’s ‘Art Madrid’ being chosen as the runner-up in the people category.

The nature category’s runner-up is an equally strong entry from Greek photographer Panos Laskarakis. Titled ‘Glorious Hunting’, taken in Okavango Delta, Botswanathe image shows the eye of a male lion peering through the carcass of a buffalo.

The final photographer gaining a place on the prestigious winners’ list is Sankar Sridhar with their ethereal shot ‘Pillar of Rain’, taken in Ladakh, India.

Hong Kong photographer Beatrice Wong made the shortlist with her shot, ‘Primordial’. Taken in South Coast, Iceland, the photo was shot from a light aircraft over the coast of Iceland where rivers run off the glaciers and carve themselves into the landscape, creating an ‘ever-changing network of braided rivers’.

Images from the Global Photo Awards will be showcased in a catalogue which will be available two weeks after the winners have been announced.
