How to make a vase using a towel: DIY pro shares simple hack using Bunnings supplies

A DIY enthusiast and blogger has transformed a standard kitchen towel into a stunning vase for her home.

Shannon, who runs the Instagram page @ourperthrneo, used a wet cement mixture and spray paint from Bunnings to upcycle the towel.

The Aussie mum-of-two shared a video online detailing how she created the unique vase – and the process seemed straightforward.

‘I thought some of you might like this idea, it’s really easy to do and is a fun way to get a bit creative,’ she wrote online. 

‘This was such a fun DIY craft and sounds a bit crazy doesn’t it! but I think it turned out pretty cool!’

Outlining step-by-step instructions on Instagram, Shannon began by carefully cutting the towel into a round circle then soaked it in a tub of water before ringing it out.

Next, Shannon mixed the cement and soaked the wet towel in the bucket.

To ensure she had a place to hang the towel, she crafted a pole using a 100mm pipe cap and piece of board.

‘The reason I went with a pipe is so the towel isn’t touching the ground when it’s hanging, this gives a nice finished shape,’ she said.

‘Place a pipe cap on the top of the pipe then hang the wet towel over it and leave it to dry overnight.’

The cement-ridden towel was the placed over the pole and left overnight to dry.

‘When the paint is dry, remove the vase from the pipe. I kept the pipe cap inside mine which helps to hold the shape,’ Shannon said.

The end result looked fantastic and the video has since gone viral, racking up a staggering 190,000 views. 

‘This is a great DIY!!’ one person wrote in the comments, another added: ‘Who would’ve thought?!’ 

‘This is brilliant!! So trying it out,’ a third added.

How to turn a towel into a vase: 

Fold an old towel into quarters then draw a quarter circle and cut along the line, this will give you a full circle

Soak the towel in some water and squeeze it out

Ensure you have somewhere to hang the vase. Shannon made a pole attaching a 100mm pipe cap to a piece of board on the floor then placed the pipe into it 

Mix the cement then soak the towel in it

Place a pipe cap on the top of the pipe then hang the wet towel over it and leave it to dry overnight 

You can use a paint brush to paint on extra cement at this point depending on the finished texture you would like to achieve. 

Once dry paint it with spray paint. You could also use normal paint and brush. 

When the paint is dry, remove the vase from the pipe. I kept the pipe cap inside mine which helps to hold the shape.
