Jurgen Klopp has bemoaned the actions of Wolves supporters who mocked their title agony at Anfield, saying he ‘didn’t understand’ how they could be so cruel.

His Liverpool side needed to better the result of leaders Manchester City on the final day, and although they eventually beat Wolves 3-1, City came back from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and clinch the Premier League championship by a single point.

The away fans cheered when news of City’s goals came through, taunting the home crowd, who were desperately hoping for good news from the Etihad.

They also started a false rumour that Villa had made it 3-3, leading Liverpool supporters to start cheering and hugging each other, believing an unlikely turnaround was complete, with Reds star Mohamed Salah also looking joyous after scoring before he was told by a fan it was actually 3-2 to City.

One Wolves fan responded on Twitter by saying: ‘Klopp on 5 live saying he can’t understand why Wolves fans we’re cheering City’s goals,’ followed by nine cry-laughing emojis.

After Pedro Neto gave the Midlands side a shock early lead, goals from Sadio Mane, Salah and Andy Robertson turned it around – but City had turned it around against Villa too.
