AFLW star Tayla Harris has revealed the ‘hilarious’ and unusual way she first crossed paths with her girlfriend.

Harris, 25, was playing for Carlton and Richmond rival Kodi Jacques was giving her Blues teammates a bit of lip mid-match – so she brutally coathangered her on the field.

‘It’s hilarious, because I didn’t know Kodes then,’ Harris recalled.

‘She was getting into my teammates…that’s her X-factor. Kodi is very strong-minded and I love that about her. She was giving it to us, so I had to repay the favour.’

Harris added her current squeeze ‘probably deserved’ to be coathangered and in football, ‘If you give it out, you’ve got to expect to get it back.’

Harris will launch her own documentary via Amazon, Kick Like Tayla, on Tuesday night in Melbourne,.

It recounts her controversial departure from Carlton at the end of the 2021 season, how she struggled being away from family during the succession of lockdowns in Victoria and her move to the Demons this year.

The warts-and-all piece also provides an insight into Harris’ love for Jacques and their two border collies, Elaine and Beans.

Going off their Instagram posts, it’s obvious the athletic couple bring the best out of one another.

‘I love having good people around me…and Kodes is always supportive,’ Harris told the Herald Sun.

‘To have complete confidence that someone has your best interests (at heart) is something I am fortunate to call on.’

When they’re not looking after their beloved dogs, the loved-up pair are often spotted out running or boxing.

Harris’ documentary also recalls how she was trolled soon after her now famous kick in 2019, with the star athlete often left wondering why she was a target given the image displayed her impressive athleticism.

Later this year, the talented forward will look to finally hoist the premiership trophy with the Demons – after losing three previous AFLW grand finals dating back to 2017.
