A brazen thief has been ruthlessly mocked online after allegedly trying to hide a stolen ice cream down the front of his pants.

The man was captured on CCTV footage inside the Nightowl convenience store in the Cairns suburb of Westcourt in Far North Queensland on Sunday.

In the video, the man reaches into the large freezer and pulls out a cone-shaped ice cream before appearing to stuff it down his board shorts.

The alleged thief then pulls his t-shirt over the waistband of his pants and casually walks away with the icy treat safely concealed.

The convenience store’s franchisee Manu Mallisetty has begged his Westcourt community for help identifying the man, Yahoo!News reports.

He posted the 10-second video to a local Facebook group and was quickly inundated with replies from entertained group members.

However, some were more interested in cracking jokes than helping Mr Mallisetty track down his alleged ice cream thief.

One joked Queensland Police were stuck with another ‘cold case’ while one local said the brazen stunt would cause ‘some serious shrinkage’.

‘Snow balls,’ another jokester commented.

‘Drumstick with extra nuts,’ a second followed.
