This month, rapper Kidd Wes filed a federal lawsuit against Glover for copyright infringement over ‘This is America.’

The suit, filed in New York, alleges the 2018 song is ‘glaringly similar’ to a song Kidd Wes, real name Emelike Nwosuocha, released two years earlier on Soundcloud named Made in America.’

It claims there are ‘nearly-identical unique rhythmic, lyrical, and thematic compositional and performance content contained in the chorus – or ‘hook’ – sections that are the centerpieces of both songs.’

This Is America earned Glover Grammys for best song and best record, making history as the first rap song to win the gongs.
