Bridgerton’s Ruby Barker reveals she’s been discharged from hospital amid ‘mental health struggle’

Ruby Barker revealed she has been discharged from hospital following a ‘mental health struggle’, as she shared a video to Instagram on Monday.

The actress, 25, who plays Marina Thompson in Bridgerton, said she ‘can’t wait for the future’ while assuring she’s ‘doing ok for herself’ – having previously admitted she had become ‘really unwell’ since starring on the series.

Speaking candidly from a nature retreat, she began: ‘I can’t wait for the future. I’m doing ok for myself. I’m in a beautiful environment right now to take some time to myself and relax and breathe.

‘Getting outdoors, going for walks, speaking to loved ones, trying not to ostracize yourself, that’s a really big step.

‘If I have any advice for my younger self, I would just tell myself, “Listen, it’s not all doom and gloom, even when you hit rock bottom.”‘

The Islington native went on to thank medical staff at the facility, as well as her friends and family and Bridgerton Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes.

Claiming she had been in touch with her co-star on the Netflix smash hit, Claudia Jessie, Ruby disclosed the suggestions she received.

‘She told me to flip the coin: It might be dull on one side, but just flip the coin and you’ll find it’s shiny on the other,’ she said.

‘It’s training your mind to find the funny, to find the light, to find the positive. It’s a really hard thing to do, but if you can get into the practice of doing that, you’ve got it.

‘I just want everybody to feel good and to feel supported, and loved and held and heard. Anybody that’s in a dark place right now, I just want you to know I see you I feel you. Find the funny and flip that coin.’

In her caption, Ruby wrote: ‘I’ve been discharged from hospital! Thank you so much for the support, I can’t wait for the future and I feel as if I’ve came out the other side.

She began: ‘I am better, I have been really unwell for a really long time. I want to be honest with everyone. I have been struggling.

‘I am in hospital at the minute and I am going to be discharged soon and hopefully get to continue with my life.

‘I am going to take a little bit of a break for myself and I would encourage others, if you are struggling, do yourself a favour and take a break, stop being so hard on yourself.’

Explaining her feelings she continued: ‘I was raged-filled, angry, all this intergenerational trauma bundled up inside me.

‘I was carrying the weight of the world on my back and now I am at the point where I have a diagnosis, I am drawing a line in the sand.

‘I can’t carry on the way that I was, I need to change so that is what I am trying to do. I want to survive and I will survive, I am going to.’

Ruby concluded the video as she gave thanks to her friends and family, as well as streaming service, Netflix, for giving her an opportunity and ‘saving her.’

She captioned the post: ‘Mental health week is every week for me. Off my chest. I feel like I’ve not been completely honest so this is for my followers. Time to be transparent.

‘I’ve been struggling since Bridgerton, this is the truth. Thank you all for supporting me, your love holds me up. #mentalhealthawareness.’
