A Passport Office has been ‘evacuated’ this evening after a ‘suspicious package was found’, sparking emergency service response. 

An area close to Peterborough’s passport office on Northminster was cordoned off by police, with the building reported to be evacuated.

People could be seen along neighbouring City Road wrapped in blankets.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: ‘We were contacted at about 7.30pm [May 30] with reports of a suspicious package at the Passport Office in Northminster, Peterborough.

‘An investigation is ongoing to establish more information about the contents of the package.

‘Road closures and a cordon are in place as a precaution.’

The Passport Office has been contacted for comment.
