MasterChef’s Matt Landmark gets boot after failing the Messina gelato challenge

MasterChef’s Matt Landmark gets the boot after failing to impress the judges in the Messina gelato challenge

Matt Landmark was eliminated from the MasterChef on Tuesday night’s episode of the cooking show.

The talented chef saw his dream come to an end after failing to produce enough gelato in a pressure test with Donato Toce from Gelato Messina.

Matt was tasked with re-creating Messina’s famous ‘Honey’ gelato dessert and was pitted against co-stars Montana, Daniel and Michael.

Despite managing to blow out the perfect ‘beehive’ in the challenge, Matt fell behind when it came to the actual gelato.

The judges said the teacher had too much financier (a French cake) in his dessert and not enough gelato.

Donato said it was a fatal error for the enthusiastic cook given the challenge was essentially based on gelato.

That said, Matt was complimented on his ‘beautiful beehive’ and faultless tuile, which were the other elements in the dish.

Speaking to Ten Play after his elimination Matt said he accepted the result of the challenge, even thought he was disappointed.

‘What Donato said was that, amongst the financier, you just couldn’t taste the gelato and, for him, it was a gelato challenge,’ Matt said.

‘I’ll wear that and I’m okay with that. I’ve made my peace with that I think.’

Matt said appearing on the show was a steep learning curve for him – forcing him out of his comfort zone.

‘Suddenly you’re in a kitchen with 23 others and they’re all that best cook,’ he continued.

‘You’ve got to reevaluate, how can you stand out? How can you improve your food?’
