The search for a woman who was last seen leaving her house in the early hours of the morning to go for a walk with her dog is over after she was found.

Police launched an appeal to find Cara Morrissey, 30, who took her dog Holly for a walk around 7.30am in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong North on Tuesday, May 31.

In an update this afternoon, Victoria Police confirmed Ms Morrissey and her dog had been found safely.

Earlier, police and SES units cordoned off a section of the carpark at Tirhatuan Park on Somerset Drive on Tuesday afternoon, after she was reported missing.

Police are appealing for the public’s help to find Cara Morrissey (pictured), 30, who took her dog Holly for a walk around 7.30am in Dandenong North on May 31 and has not been seen since

Ms Morrissey’s family said that she often walks her dog Holly through the Tirhatuan Park area, usually taking around an hour.

Police were seen at the park patrolling on foot and horses, searching the undergrowth for clues.

People living near the park also showed up to assist in the search.

However, one park walker said it would be unlikely she was still in the park.

‘There’s only so many places and bushland to look through,’ the man told The Herald Sun.

‘Someone would have seen her by now.’

Her parents were alarmed by her failure to arrive home as 'she hates the cold', and raised the alarm (pictured, missing woman Cara Morrissey)
