Alexandre Lacazette is to be revealed tomorrow as Lyon player once again after five years at Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette is set to be revealed as a Lyon player once again on Thursday after returning to his boyhood club on a free transfer – five years after leaving to join Arsenal in a £48m move

  • The signing of Alexandre Lacazette is set to be announced by Lyon tomorrow
  • Announcement is expected at a Lyon press conference on Thursday morning
  • The Frenchman will rejoin his boyhood club after five seasons with Arsenal
  • Lacazette joined the north London club for £47.7million back in July, 2017

Alexandre Lacazette is expected to be announced as a Lyon player once again after choosing not to renew his contract with Arsenal.

Les Gones have scheduled a press conference tomorrow morning at 9am where it is thought the signing will be made official to the media, according to RMC Sport.

Lacazette will rejoin his boyhood club, having left France for Arsenal five years ago in a £47.7million deal, the only other club he has played for in his 13-year senior career.

The former French international had been training at the Rhone club since choosing not to extend his stay at Arsenal.

The move to Arsenal in 2017 was meant to be a springboard moment in the striker’s career, with the aim to establish himself as France’s starting centre forward.

However, the move had almost entirely the opposite effect, and in fact he has not featured for Les Bleus since November 2017.

Nor has he played in the Champions League since his departure from Lyon, who ventured as far as the semi-finals in the 2019-2020 season.

Lacazette did not enjoy the best season for Arsenal, and found it harder and harder to find the target as his career in north London reached its climax, finding the net only four times this season.

But Les Gones will not be too concerned with this stat, as they look to rebuild their side around a core of home-grown talent and young players, and Lacazette’s experience will surely prove invaluable in mentoring these younger talents.

The French side will hope that a change of scenery and perhaps less scrutiny and pressure can help the forward to recapture part of the form that saw him manage 129 goals in 275 goals at the club.

RMC Sport also understands that the second part of the press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning will be to announce the extension of Portuguese goalkeeper Anthony Lopes’ contract.

Lopes is another to have spent his entire career at Lyon, having joined as a 15-year-old, and kept 13 clean sheets in 42 games for the club last season in all competitions.

Despite being an ever present at club level for Lyon Lopes has only 14 Portugal caps since 2015
