A one-of-a-kind contemporary home boasts a stunning Japanese-inspired design and a spectacularly striking fairy-lit garden walls with climbing vines and a huge circular window nook. 

The stylish Totoro House is named after and inspired by the Studio Ghibli movie ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ and sits in Russel Lea in Sydney’s inner-west. 

Designed by Sydney-based firm CplusC Architectural Workshop, the original house was renovated and extended utilising the Japanese concept of ‘Shakkei’, meaning ‘borrowed scenery’, which is the ancient technique of seamlessly incorporating outside scenery in the home’s design.

In the primary bedroom, a massive circular window with a built-in seat and timber hatch to let the breeze flow through, overlooks the garden below and makes for a unique feature rear courtyard, surrounded outside by creeping vines and twinkling fairy lights.

The family room is the heart of the home with natural textures of brick, smooth timber and concrete as well as a semi-circle sunken dining room and the curved island bench in the kitchen.
