Man United target Christian Eriksen will ‘not rush anything’ when making a decision over his future

Manchester United target Christian Eriksen insists he will ‘not rush anything’ when making a decision over his future as he continues to be linked with Newcastle and a return to Spurs after successful stint at Brentford

  • Christian Eriksen is a free agent following the expiry of his Brentford contract
  • Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the Dane on a free
  • Eriksen has also been linked with Newcastle and a return to Spurs this summer
  • However, the 30-year-old insists he will not be rushed into making a decision
  • Brentford, United and Spurs are all said to have made approaches for Eriksen
  • Premier League fixtures are out on Thursday at 9am as teams find out schedules

Christian Eriksen will assess his transfer options when he returns from holiday later this month with a number of Premier League clubs competing to sign him.

The Dane is the subject of strong interest from both Manchester United and former club Tottenham, while Brentford have also made him a significant offer to extend his stay in west London.

Eriksen is currently recuperating after competing in the Nations League with Denmark and will put his mind to his next steps when he is back. Though he has also offers from clubs outside England, Sportsmail understands his preference is to stay in the Premier League.

Christian Eriksen insists he will not rush any decision on his future after becoming a free agent

‘No, and they know that too,’ Eriksen told reporters after Denmark’s 2-0 win over Austria on Monday, as per Bold.dk.

‘There are many criteria and many different things inside such a decision. Sometimes it goes fast in football, other times a little slower.

‘You are not in control of it yourself. I have to make the best decision and not rush anything through.

‘My phone stays on, but I also know my agent well enough to know that he only calls if there’s something exciting.’

The 30-year-old is admired by new United boss Erik ten Hag, who saw him at close quarters when Eriksen briefly trained with Ajax in January, and three previous United managers – Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – attempted to sign him.

Eriksen also spent six-and-a-half seasons at Tottenham before moving to Inter Milan to link up with Antonio Conte – who is now in charge of Spurs.

His 62 assists during his time in north London were more than any other Premier League player in that period.

It is thought that while Eriksen is keen to compete again in the Champions League, it will not be the only factor in his decision.

Eriksen had a stunning impact on his return to football with Brentford, after he had suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark against Finland at Euro 2020 last summer.

Thomas Frank’s team were fighting relegation when he arrived but then won seven of the 10 games Eriksen started to finish comfortably in mid-table.

As reported by Sportsmail on Tuesday, if United move for Eriksen it would not affect their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong, who impressed in Holland’s 3-2 win over Wales in the Nations League.

The idea of the pair combining in midfield is a mouthwatering prospect for United fans.

The Barcelona star is a priority for Ten Hag though they have yet to make a formal bid for the 25-year-old and, are prepared to walk away from the deal and pursue other options if the two sides cannot compromise on price.
