WEDDING GUEST DRESS

We all get in a sweat about what to wear to someone else’s big day and this summer there is an intimidating backlog of weddings to dress for. My strategy is buy one dress that will work for any summer occasion — after all a wedding is just that.

Dinah Van Tulleken (pictured) shares advice on choosing wedding guest dresses. Dress, £155, Stine Goya at fenwick. co.uk; platforms, £299, lkbennett. com; bag, £105, islarisa.com

DARE TO RECYCLE

You can make one outfit work multiple times; just add a jacket, statement shoes, change your handbag. No one will notice you’re on repeat even if there is a little overlap between guest lists. And if someone does, who cares? If you were the Duchess of Cambridge it would be fashionably referred to as ‘recycling’.

ADD A TWIST

‘Traditional with a twist’ fits every dress code, but you have to make sure the dress is a good one: buy right, buy once. Look for puff sleeves, interesting prints, button-front details, and tiered hems.

This elegant pink and green Stine Goya design is from Fenwick, which does occasion wear better than anyone. From Reiss to Roksanda, Fenwick’s website is a haven of wedding-appropriate pieces. And, whether you need a hat or not, check out the store’s millinery department – they’re works of art.

OR SIMPLY RENT

If you can’t bear to risk being seen in the same dress twice, try renting. You can get your hands on a beautiful Vampire’s Wife design (below) for £120 — a fraction of the cost to buy.
