Parramatta have dropped Nathan Brown for their clash with the Roosters on Saturday, with the star forward informed that he does not have a long-term future with the Eels.

Brad Arthur has wielded the axe following Parra’s embarrassing 30-point defeat by Canterbury last time out, with Brown being left out of the 17.

His omission opens the door for young Ky Rodwell to play his second NRL game.

Brown’s Eels future now appears to be at a crossroads, with Parra informing his management that he is no longer part of their plans after his representatives reached out to begin discussions on a contract extension.

The 29-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal but the Eels are willing to release him sooner if he finds another club.

Parra insist that Brown’s axing from Saturday’s squad is based on playing form alone and is not related to their contract stance.

‘It’s a simple one; Nathan’s management has asked,’ Arthur said on Thursday.

Eels coach Brad Arthur confirmed that the club are looking to move the lock forward on

‘He’s on contract until the end of 2023, and we have quite a few players in that situation where they’re all looking out for what comes after. We have to remember it is a sport, but it is a business. Everyone has their own priorities they need to look after.

‘He’s just reached out to find out if there’s anything moving forward. With our cap situation and the players we’ve got and the spend, there’s nothing past 2023 in our plans. It’s his right to ask to look around. There’s no ‘he wants to go’ or ‘we’re pushing him out’. He’s just trying to secure his future past 2023. It is what it is.’

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Wests Tigers have been approached about a possible reunion with the lock forward, but the NRL strugglers are in no position to make recruitment decisions until a new head coach is appointed.

Brown’s influence at Parra has lessened this season, having been relegated to the bench in his past three games.
