Clarifications and corrections
We published an article on 24 November about a legal claim brought by Para Showjumper/hidden disability ambassador Evie Toombes against her mother’s doctor for failing to give proper advice about the importance of folic acid supplements for women intending to become pregnant. The case was brought under the Congenital Disabilities Act 1976 – an Act to make provision as to the civil liability in case of children born disabled in consequence of some person’s fault.
The original headline was written with an opening statement in inverted commas: ‘I should never have been born’.
We would like to clarify that there was no intention to imply that Evie spoke these words, and the inverted commas were not intended to convey this. The statement does not represent the thoughts of Evie or any of her family, and we apologise for any contrary impression given and distress caused.
