Tully Smyth had ‘no mental health support’ when she first appeared on Big Brother in 2013 and faced major backlash for cheating on her girlfriend

She’s the latest contestant to be eliminated from the Big Brother house.

And Tully Smyth has revealed the after-care for this year’s season couldn’t have been more different to how she was handled during her appearance on the series in 2013.

The 34-year-old explained to TV Blackbox she had ‘no mental health support’ from producers when she was labelled the show’s villain nine years ago.

‘It was horrendous; I had no support,’ she said.

‘I had to reach out to the producers and tell them I was going to find my own psychologist and they were going to be paying the bill.’

Tully said she’d told the producers of Big Brother, which aired on Channel Nine at the time, ‘You caused me all this drama, you can pay for it… you did this.’

But she said things were different this year now that Big Brother is airing on Seven and there is a greater emphasis on mental health care for reality TV participants.

‘There’s a wellness team, there’s a psychologist. I could tell from the minute we got to Sydney that this time round was going to be different,’ she said.

Tully has a controversial history on Big Brother to say the least.

She made headlines during the 2013 season when she cheated on her then-girlfriend Tahlia Farrant with Anthony Drew in the house.

Speaking on the Shameless podcast in 2019, Tully said she regretted what happened and the ‘hurt’ she caused other people.

‘There were six weeks when I was out there alone. [Drew] never had to deal with the repercussions of what happened,’ she recalled.

‘He was a rock star that turned a lesbian and I was a cheating sl**ty homewrecker.’
