Wimbledon homes for sale – including Simon Cowell’s second London home

After a three-year absence, Wimbledon is back – and so is our look at properties for sale that are within a short stroll of Centre Court.

We have picked four multi-million pound detached homes fit for international tennis stars, celebrity guests and business moguls.

Several of the properties are in the affluent Wimbledon Village, which is just a few streets away from the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club and offers tennis fans plenty of boutiques and restaurants during breaks from the championships.

The list includes a Wimbledon Village property for sale that is owned by Simon Cowell and is for sale for £17million.

But why is Wimbledon such an in-demand area? Edward Foley, who has been selling property in the area for more than two decades, explained: ‘I bumped into a couple at an art exhibition in Wimbledon Village last week. They bought their house through me exactly 20 years ago for £3.65million within earshot of the tennis and a highly sought-after road.

‘They moved over from Camden and didn’t know Wimbledon Village and that house would be worth considerably more now.

‘Another property on Parkside I sold around that time for £1.65million and has changed hands a few times since, is now being sold for £16million.

‘Many of the houses I’ve sold over that time in Wimbledon Village have the same families living in them, although with children finishing universities some may well be changing hands in the next few years.’

He added: ‘Wimbledon still has plenty to offer young families with excellent schools both independent and state and an easy commute into central London.

‘The tennis is only two weeks a year but such an event makes it known throughout the world. You can be on holiday and say you live in Wimbledon and people will know it.’

Daniel Copley, of Zoopla, said: ‘Leafy Wimbledon has plenty of properties for sale that would be perfect for a tennis star who needs to be a stone’s throw from centre court, but wants to benefit from a calming and luxurious home to retreat to afterwards.’

We reported at the end of last year how music mogul Simon Cowell put his second home on the market for £18million – without ever living in it.

After paying £15million for the six-bedroom property in Wimbledon Village in 2019, the Britain’s Got talent judge spent an estimate £1million on renovations that he could share with his now fiancee Lauren Silverman, her son Adam, and their son Eric.

But before moving in, the couple reportedly attempted ‘trial’ school runs of the 14-mile round trip from the house to Eric’s school and, on at least one occasion, it took more than two hours.

The controversial closure of Hammersmith Bridge made the problem worse, and with no plans for it to be reopened, the couple have now decided they will remain in their six-bedroom mansion in Holland Park.

The property has seen a reduction in price and is now for sale for £17million via Fuller Gilbert estate agents.
