Justin Langer may opt to spend time in the nets while mulling over his next career move after the former Australia coach was hilariously dismissed during an impromptu appearance in Singapore.

The former Test batsman has quietly taken a step back from the game since he left his post as coach of the national team earlier this year and was recently linked with the England post before Brendon McCullum got the nod.

And last week Langer strapped on the pads for Singapore club side Woodpeckers CC but footage that has since circulated on social media has shown that all did not go to plan.

When a high, looping slow ball was sent down leg side, the 51-year-old’s eyes lit up and he danced down the wicket, looking to put the ball away off his pads.

However, he completely missed the ball and, stranded well outside his crease, the keeper had the simple task of removing the bails to send the Western Australian packing.

The bowler, stunned that he had dismissed a former world-class Test batsman, charged down the wicket in celebration, while a baffled Langer was left to trudge off the pitch with the Woodpeckers in deep trouble at 4-31.

He was seen wearing a wry smile before simply shrugging his shoulders. Langer was seemingly in good spirits shortly after, though, as he was seen posing with fans for photos.

Langer is in the midst of writing a memoir and earlier this month admitted he was ‘angry’ about the nature of his Australia exit – with a power struggle at the heart of his departure.

‘As I sit here now I’m so happy. […] I’ve got some scars from the last 12 months, but I’ll work through those, that’s life. In my darkest hours is when I’ve learned my greatest lessons,’ he said.

‘I wasn’t happy the way it all ended, but I’m really proud of what we achieved.

‘So I just wonder now whether it’s time for a new chapter and doing something else, because I love the game of cricket but I’ve been doing it [for a long time] […] I’m excited to see what opportunities come up next.’
